Hotel Villa Bahia

It's a very cute, centuries-old inn on a pleasant square in Salvador's historic center. Breakfast was nice and the location is great, and most of the staff were friendly. But it's very overpriced. They advertise an indoor pool, though it's tiny and claustrophobic, and I don't think you'd want to swim in it.

I felt very safe and really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were comfortable and lovely, the homemade breakfast was tasty, and the location was wonderful.

The location works well for the historic center, but there's little else to recommend this hotel. The room seemed rustic at first, which was fine, then the problems piled up. The bathroom is very basic, and toilet paper can't be flushed, which feels deeply unhygienic. The floors wobble enough to shake the furniture; furniture creaks, and doors don't close properly. The noise is the worst part. A bar next door plays music into the early hours, especially when the police station beside it is closed. The hotel does nothing, and literal holes in the wall let the sound through so loudly it feels like sitting in the front row. Towels stuffed into the gaps barely help. You can't escape it. There are plenty of reasons to avoid staying here.

Jefferson and the crew took such good care of us. My friend and I loved Hotel Villa Bahia! Right in the heart of Salvador's historic downtown, it's easy to walk to museums and historic sites. The service was top tier, breakfast was amazing, and after a hot day exploring, the air conditioning was delicious. The facilities were amazing too. 10/10!
