Villas Taturé

The setting is unlike any hotel I’ve seen, built among an existing coconut grove without disturbing a single tree, beside the region’s most beautiful beach. We stayed three nights with my friend last week, and from arrival the service was the best I’ve ever experienced, in Brazil or anywhere in the world. The food was out of this world, made with top-quality ingredients and always served fresh. Anyone going to Brazil should see this place. I highly recommend staying here.

I’ve never had a more paradisiacal stay. The staff are really friendly but give you privacy, only appearing when you text them, which helps keep that secluded, paradise-like feel. The rooms are beautiful, elegant, and cozy, with a modern beach style. The hotel itself is lovely, and the location makes it even more beautiful. The sea is crystal clear, and the tides change every day. At high tide there are some small waves, while at low tide the beach opens up into a huge stretch with warm pools in the ocean.

The location is a secluded village, so good luck finding last-minute supplies. That seclusion is also what makes Tature special. There are fewer than 10 rooms, and it stays very quiet. A guard is at the entrance, there are plenty of staff to look after guests, and the property is generally well maintained. It’s a good fit for someone looking to reflect, couples wanting a getaway, or families who want private time. WiFi reaches all the rooms, but there’s no signal at the beach. The beach can get extremely shallow and calm depending on the tide, and lots of people bring little kids to splash in the pools that form in the middle of the ocean. I’d recommend biking up and down the beach. The sand is firm and doesn’t catch the tires like some soft, artificial sand. Bikes and kayaks are available to borrow, with no rental charge. Each room has its own hut on the beach and one within the main facility. Breakfast is included, though water or coconut water costs extra. Having breakfast at your hut is great. I didn’t find many flies or insects bothering me, and the coffee and cheese breads are great. The pool is questionable, though. They don’t always keep it clean, so I wouldn’t swim at night in case you end up with bugs or debris. The outdoor shower for rinsing off salt is worth trying, but it isn’t private and the water is ice cold. I don’t think they use pesticide on the property, which has pros and cons. You might see frogs, lizards, or geckos on the walls, especially at night. Mosquitoes could get into your room, but you should be fine if you keep the door and windows closed around sunset. The shower can feel damp and moldy because there’s no ventilation, though the room and bathroom are quite spacious. It may not suit you if you don’t speak Portuguese. None of the staff could communicate in English, and I’m not sure about Spanish.

We chose the perfect place for our fifth anniversary. If you want a real Brazilian experience, this is it. The road from Maceió’s airport to Milagres is easy, though we rented a car instead of taking a transfer straight to the hotel. The views are breathtaking, the food is great, and the service is out of this world. Everyone working there was smiling and ready to help with whatever we needed. The beach is private and astonishingly beautiful, with crystal-clear water at the right temperature, depending on the time of year. If salty water isn’t your thing, the pool is amazing too. On Fridays and Saturdays, there’s a Luau with great music, drinks, and food. We had a wonderful time at Villas Taturé and recommend it. Hopefully we won’t wait too long to visit again.
