They personally let people in and out, which made the security feel amazing. The staff were all very nice and helpful, and they turned away several groups who seemed rowdy or sketchy. Across the street, "Bar Campina do Ouro" is full of warm, welcoming locals who love watching futbol. Each room has multiple wall fans to keep it cool, and there are individual lights above each top bunk.

I didn’t stay here, so this is about the booking problem and the service I got when I arrived. I booked a “Standard 8 Bed Mixed Dorm” through Hostelworld. I see that option on Booking.com too, but the hostel doesn’t actually have that room type. They showed me their system: there are only two dorms, one with eight female beds and one mixed dorm with 12 beds. They need to fix the listing. I arrived at 12:20 p.m., and check-in wasn’t until 1, so I waited. That part was fine. At 1 they told me about the mistake. The manager, or someone the front desk person called, eventually came over and said they could ask one of the women in the 12-bed room to swap with me. That missed the point: I’d booked an eight-bed dorm and would have had to wait around for a random woman to answer. The front desk person was rude. I started speaking Spanish, which I did because I speak enough Portuguese to get by in São Paulo and Portuguese speakers generally understand enough Spanish. Her Spanish wasn’t very good, but when she saw my American passport, she said, “Oh... so you speak English,” and seemed offended that I’d tried Spanish, even though her English wasn’t good either. There was no urgency in handling the issue. While I was waiting until 1 after already being there for 40 minutes, someone else came in to chat with her and she took her time getting back to me.

Perfect hostel, really. It’s not too big, and it’s comfy, clean, and social, with super friendly staff. Raphael, the manager, was lovely to talk with about the city. Thank you! It really felt like home :)

It’s a small, cozy place. I originally booked for one day, then came back because I loved the people working there. We’d play music together and hang out each day, and I made some good friends. I’d always return, especially if you’re looking to meet fun people. It might be a bit loud sometimes if you’re trying to sleep. New management is coming in, so I hope some fresh ideas take shape.
