Hostel Aprisco Brasil

The hostel was cozy and had everything we needed. Gilvania was amazing when we had trouble on arrival, and waited for us to check in even though we were late. Highly recommended!

DO NOT STAY HERE! The owner is dishonest and lies. They seem to make money from cancellations when guests book but never actually stay. I asked to cancel several days before check-in, but the owner refused my 3 requests, claiming Booking would charge them if they cancelled on their end even if I didn't stay. I called Booking, and they said that wasn't true: when the host cancels because the guest requested it, Booking doesn't charge the host. The owner didn't answer when I called after that. There's a rule on the listing that's hard to find, saying nobody can enter the hostel after 10pm on any day of the week. I thought it applied only to check-in, but it means you can't come in or out after 10pm, even after you've checked in. That makes the hostel unsuitable for many people. The owner said other guests had asked to cancel because of this, but they don't accept and the guest loses the money without ever staying. I called the owner twice, explained I'm unemployed right now, and asked for a refund 3 or 4 times. I also asked Booking to send them a request directly, but they didn't respond. Based on what happened, I believe they're dishonest and keeping money that doesn't belong to them. Guests may not know about the rule when booking, and the owner knows they won't stay if they need to arrive after 10pm. They can then rent the same bed to someone else and make money twice. What a “great” business model. Don't stay here!
