O Albergue Hostel

I never even got to stay, so I can't recommend this place. We booked through Booking, with a credit card attached as security for a last minute cancellation fee. I messaged O Albergue to check the room was available, and the attendant said the one we'd booked was no longer available, even though it was still listed on Booking. He offered a different room at a higher price and at another address. I said I wanted the accommodation shown in the listing. Then he said the booking depended on paying half of the four-night stay upfront by Pix. The reservation was never canceled, but on check-in day I messaged to say we were coming and was told it had been canceled. The attendant also implied we were stringing him along, seemingly trying to make us responsible and portray himself as the victim. Avoid this place. If you know the person who owns or runs O Albergue, I'd suggest keeping your distance, because he showed signs of being morally and ethically troubling.

The place was clean and well kept, and being close to USP was convenient. I also appreciated having a spot to make my own coffee, which is a must for me. Douglas, the owner, deserves credit for creating a space where people can feel at home.

After driving for ten hours, I arrived exhausted and couldn't get anyone to answer. I'd booked a room ahead of time, but nobody was there when I showed up. I sent the person in charge several messages and called repeatedly, with no response. I waited out on the street for an hour and a half and nearly had to sleep in my car. If someone can't take responsibility for running a place like this, they shouldn't run one.

Douglas's kindness and attention helped me decide to stay, and once I arrived, I was welcomed so warmly. The service was excellent, with everything clean and perfectly organized. The location is also exceptional. I had a great stay, recommend it, and hope to be back soon. ❤️
