The room and location were both great. The gym could use some attention, though, since most of the equipment is falling apart. The receptionist with the face tattoo had a poor attitude, and checkout with him was rough.

The location is the one thing this hotel has going for it. The bedroom feels outdated and needs renovating, and the mini fridge is so loud that I had to unplug it at night to sleep. The facilities for ironing clothes were in poor condition, and sometimes I waited half an hour just to iron one shirt. The elevators could take up to 10 minutes to arrive, too. The receptionists were rude and didn't explain things to guests. I speak Portuguese and English fluently, and I spoke Portuguese with them, so language wasn't the issue. The swimming pool advertised on the listing was closed and out of service, with no warning beforehand. When I needed to postpone my stay by a week, one receptionist tried to charge me twice the usual price, which felt extremely unfair. The area has changed over the years. After 8 pm, you hardly see anyone walking around, so it feels deserted. This was honestly the worst hotel experience I've had. The following week, I spent four days in Moema, and that whole stay was as good as a single day at La Residence. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The location was the highlight for us, with great places to visit, museums, parks, and plenty of food all within a 10-15 minute walk. The hotel also made arriving easy: they valet your car and bring it around when you need it. Coming from the US to Brazil, we found it affordable, with helpful, friendly staff, spacious rooms with AC, and an excellent breakfast buffet with lots of options. It's not a five star luxury hotel, so don't expect that, but it was a really nice stay for the price. I'd recommend it if you want to keep hotel costs down and still stay somewhere nice.
