Pousada Sírius

I came to explore, but ended up spending more time sleeping and resting, and I got plenty of rest. It’s a quiet, cozy place. Breakfast was generous and delicious, and Dona Silvia even packed some of the breakfast fruit for me to take on my Serra da Canastra outing. Thank you, Dona Silvia. I’ll definitely come back.

I stayed there in September 2023 and paid a lot for three nights in a room with no ventilation or private bathroom. Because it’s beside the river, the room had to stay shut at night so bugs or people couldn’t get in through the back. I regret not checking the place before paying, and putting up with the responsible woman’s rudeness from the start. That wasn’t even the worst of it. When I checked out, she demanded towels that had never been given to us. I told her that, but she accused me of taking them. I got very upset and opened my backpack to show there was nothing inside, yet she made such a scene that neighbors started coming out into the street. One neighbor saw me crying, told me to stay calm, and said this had happened before and that her behavior was normal. As we were leaving town to continue our trip to the park, her son stopped us and again asked to look in my backpack. I emptied it into the street and showed him every item of clothing. I even felt sorry for him, because I thought his mother needed psychiatric help and he was going along with her. I was so shaken by being accused, insulted, and humiliated that I couldn’t think straight. I should have called the police, filmed what happened, and taken legal action against a place that should never be called an inn. I travel often and stayed at more than five places on this Canastra trip without any problems, all with excellent Airbnb reviews. This place left me traumatized and stressed about all the trips I’ve taken. Don’t stay here!

My stay at pousada Sirius was awful. I’d bought a Serra da Canastra tour package that included all expenses and paid in full before heading to the inn. When the owner checked my details, she presented a bill for expenses I’d already paid. I asked to contact the tourism manager to find out what had happened, but she acted authoritatively, wouldn’t give me time, and kept pressuring me to pay the disputed amount, threatening to call the police if I didn’t. I left and waited about five hours for the tourism manager to sort things out, then booked somewhere else. That other inn was far better. It was a day I’d rather forget. Figuratively, I felt like I’d been beaten for no reason. Later, local residents told me about the inn’s history, describing a pattern of undesirable behavior. I absolutely do not recommend POUSADA SIRIUS in São Roque.

It’s a simple inn, but the service is great, breakfast is good, and the location is central. In my view, it fully serves what tourists need: a place to enjoy the scenery, waterfalls, and history of Serra da Canastra.
