Pousada do Pascoal

This was my second stay at Pousada do Pascoal, and it was nothing like the first. The problems I’m describing happened in 2024, not during my 2021 visit. I rented a room with friends for four people, but it was so cramped we could barely all stand inside at once. There was mold everywhere, dust came out of the air conditioner, the bathroom was tiny and seemed to be falling apart, and the toilet wouldn’t flush. During the week, the power went out at least 10 times a day. We had cold showers and couldn’t use a hair dryer or straightener, or get ready properly to go out. We reported the issues again and again to the owners. They read our WhatsApp messages and ignored them, with no explanation for the outages or estimate for a fix. It felt dangerous for the guests: the diffuser kept falling, and one time it burned. The risk of the Pousada catching fire seemed enormous. Then our bathroom got clogged. We messaged and went down to reception for over three hours without getting an answer. On our seventh trip down, we were told to walk 20 minutes to Pascoal’s restaurant to find the owners. I can’t believe they sent a guest to look for help that way. The service was awful, to put it mildly. The owner only showed up with a solution at seven in the evening, when the bathroom was finally unclogged. The kitchen where breakfast was stored was extremely dirty, and we even found a flying cockroach there. The place looked like it lacked basic sanitation. The owners showed no empathy or responsibility and never apologized for all the problems, which made their disregard for guests clear. Seven other people and I spent an absurd amount of money to stay somewhere terrible. The whole experience was frustrating and unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this Pousada to anyone. The cleaning woman was the only saving grace, a lovely person, but she had no power to do anything about these problems.
