Pousada Arco Iris

We stayed in room 10. It is small, sure, but it worked really well for us and felt fair and satisfying for the price. It also had air conditioning, and the window faced the parking lot, which didn’t bother me at all. The inn is right downtown in São Thomé, on the corner of the square. Breakfast was very good, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Francisca welcomed us so kindly. I’ll be back.

I’ve been to São Tomé five times now and usually stayed in simpler, more affordable inns. This year was a special occasion, so I looked at reviews and photos to find somewhere “better” and chose Arco Íris. I ended up very disappointed. The room was tiny, there was nowhere decent to put our clothes, the bed was uncomfortable, and the bathroom window faced the street. It wasn’t worth the price. Breakfast didn’t have many options, though it was okay. Francisca was lovely and really helped soften the bad impression we had overall. I’ll return to São Tomé many more times, but never to this inn. The cost and value don’t add up when there are cheaper places with tastier breakfasts and more comfortable rooms.

After eight years, I came back and still have nothing but praise. The rooms are spotlessly clean, breakfast is delicious, and reception service deserves a 10. The location is a real plus if you don’t want to drive around town.

It’s right in the town center, and my husband and I loved the cozy, rustic feel. The rooms were very clean, and the staff were polite, welcoming, and ready to help with whatever we needed. There’s a heated pool and sauna, plus a delicious breakfast. If you like a rustic setting, this is the perfect place. I recommend it.
