Pousada Portal do Kite

It was so convenient to store kite gear and set up right in front of the kite spot. The staff were kind and helpful with local information, and I’m grateful for my stay. Breakfast was great and varied, with a nice place to eat quietly or chat with other guests. I loved waking up to the sea view and spotting hummingbirds, butterflies, and lizards. A lovely pousada with lovely people. Muito obrigada.

The bar that’s opened right next door was the last straw. It has very loud parties every night until 1am, making sleep impossible. The music actually made our bed vibrate. We paid 10,500 reais for two people for a week in what was supposedly the best room, and the price-to-quality ratio was way off. Our friends paid the same or half and stayed at places with excellent AC, great breakfasts, and daily cleaning, like Pousada Santa Maria, Portal do Vento, Avra, and La Ventana. The AC never worked properly, so every night was boiling hot and full of mosquitoes. Small gaps in the wooden walls made it impossible to keep them out. They blamed the area’s electricity, but our friends at the pousadas nearby had working AC. On top of that, the unit alarm went off every 10 minutes at night, waking us up, and we couldn’t turn it off. There was no staff on site at night to help. The pillows were the worst, absurdly tall and hard. Breakfast was mediocre at best, and the staff sat at their table with moody expressions, staring at us as if we were intruders. The “daily cleaning” happened only twice in 6 days. They just made the beds and changed towels, while our bathroom had ants every day and there was sand in the room all the time. I don’t know what changed between the reviews from two years ago and now, but this place has gone downhill a lot. It was literally the worst experience we’ve had in a long time.

The balcony was one of my favorite spots, especially in the evenings when we could relax and listen to the sea. Our room was cozy, with a very comfortable bed, and the facilities were beautiful. There’s also kite gear storage, which was a huge relief and so practical. This was the most magical part of our trip, and we ended up staying longer than planned. You fall asleep to the waves and wake surrounded by hummingbirds, tamarins, and butterflies, with the sea and lagoon in front of you. Chico, Marta, and Valdenes were wonderful, always kind and attentive. Breakfast was delicious every morning, with fruit and fresh cakes each day. Thank you for looking after us so well and joining in our kitesurfing adventures. I hope to come back very soon! ❤️

The food was delicious, and mestre Orlando made the best caipirosca I’ve ever tried. Very attentive staff, and there’s kite storage for guests. Right in front of the kite spot. Excellent!
