Hotel Velho Monge

Really excellent!

We stayed here with our family while arriving in Teresina from São Paulo. There was a show in town and this was the only hotel available. The rate wasn’t cheap, but we needed somewhere to stay because our apartment in Teresina was being fumigated. We spent one night there, then went to the apartment the next day. Two days later, my husband woke up in the middle of the night itching badly enough to break the skin and had to go to the hospital. He was diagnosed with scabies. I went through treatment with him even though I had no symptoms, and thankfully our baby wasn’t affected. The doctor suspected, and later became certain, that my husband had caught it at the hotel. He and I used the hotel towels, while our baby used only her own, which I always bring along. That would explain why just the two of us were affected. The place isn’t properly clean or maintained, and that’s a serious risk, especially for families with children. I don’t recommend staying here. I have evidence and the medical diagnosis confirming what happened. Be careful, the hygiene is terrible.

It’s an older hotel, but the service was good. The staff were kind and handled our requests with a friendly attitude. Good value for a night passing through town.

It was quiet, and they even had little tables in the room for studying, which makes this a good choice if you’re in town for exams. The hotel is very central, so there aren’t many bars or restaurants nearby, though that didn’t bother me. My room was comfortable and had air conditioning, which really matters in such a hot city. Breakfast was simple but complete, and very good. I had a great stay and would come back. I’d suggest giving the room bathrooms a more thorough clean.
