Pousada Toro Real

Fantastic!

Breakfast was a highlight, simple but tasty. The pamonha was wonderful, the cakes and juices were very good, and the attendants were extremely caring. My baby loved the cakes and orange juice! The only food drawbacks were the hard crust on the pão de sal and a limited variety. I also saw a hygiene issue that made me uncomfortable: a guest used the spoon inside the juice pitcher to taste the drink, put it in their mouth, then returned it to the pitcher. Covered pitchers or a setup that prevents that would help. We stayed in Tiradentes with my family on 11/09 after finding the Pousada through ads. It’s a charming hotel with a rustic style and a very pleasant garden. We were grateful for how they handled the room changes. The first suite had a very hard, uncomfortable bed. The team promptly offered another room with a better bed, but it couldn’t fit a third bed for the baby. They then gave us a third option and, since there was no crib, made a special little space for the baby. We were comfortable in the end, and appreciated the attention. The service felt a bit cold and distant compared with the warmer tone on WhatsApp. When we asked to change rooms, Guilherme seemed somewhat annoyed, though he was patient with us. His help was attentive, even if he still came across a little distant. The woman working the night shift was somewhat rude to my parents. On the other hand, the female staff at breakfast were very kind. A few things could be improved: the beds, which matter a lot when you’re traveling; having cribs available; the bathroom in our room, where the sliding door didn’t lock and let odors into the room; and the pool, which had lots of leaves while we were there and put us off using it. All in all, it was a good stay, especially for the breakfast, outdoor areas, and the staff’s care. With some adjustments, I think the Pousada could feel even more welcoming and offer guests an excellent stay.

The room was right beside the breakfast area, so we were woken early. Guests pay a lot for a vacation, and that wasn’t okay. The location also isn’t close to the historic center. Cleaning was awful. I left the keys so they could clean, but they didn’t even change the towel. The photos show there was only one towel, not two as the owner told Booking. The bathroom photos also show mold on the ceiling, a dirty toilet, very little space, and a shower with weak water flow. The blankets smelled bad, but I used them so I wouldn’t be cold. The room does have heating, and breakfast had limited choices but was satisfactory. There are better Pousadas with kinder, more courteous people. After I left a rating for the room, the owner messaged me to challenge it. I found that disrespectful and felt he had trouble accepting criticism. He could take it as a chance to improve.

We had a great welcome in this peaceful, pleasant place. The garden is very well kept, the rooms were very clean, and pets are accepted without fuss.
