I got lucky finding Hotel Pousada Mata Nativa. The peaceful, secluded setting is surrounded by nature, with a river running right through the grounds. You can canoe along it all the way to the ocean. The beach is a 7-minute walk away, and the charming center of Trancoso takes about 7-10 minutes to reach. The pool was a wonderfully quiet spot to read and switch off when I’d had enough of the beach or its bars. Breakfast was delicious, with traditional dishes that change each day and natural juices without added sugar. Daily cleaning was impeccable. My room was always spotless and beautifully kept. The owner speaks excellent English, French, and Russian, and generously shared tips for hidden wild beaches and restaurants away from the tourist crowds. She also showed me local life and kept me up to date on cultural events in Trancoso, and there are plenty! I fell in love with this place and will definitely return :)

The peaceful, nature-filled setting made it easy to relax. It’s also very close to a beautiful, cozy beach. Being among the monkeys and sloths was magical, and the evening massage was spectacular. Thank you to everyone at Pousada Mata Nativa. The welcome at reception made me feel at home right away, breakfast was prepared with such care, and my room was always spotless, with attention in every detail. It was a really restful stay, and the team made my week in Trancoso even more special. Hope to see you all again soon!

The staff are what set Mata Nativa apart. They went out of their way to handle food requests, reservations, and accommodation arrangements, and offered the kind of concierge service you’d want at a luxury hotel. Irina, the owner, makes sure your experience is excellent. I stayed with a group of friends over New Year’s. The pousada is charming and well located, about a 10-minute walk from both Trancoso’s famous main square, Quadrado, and the beach.

The garden, room, breakfast, massage, and kayak trip were all wonderful. Everything was perfectly clean, and everyone was super friendly. We loved the place and can’t wait to come back!
