My family and I stayed at Hotel Recanto do Teimoso in Ubatuba over New Year's, and it was an extremely unpleasant experience. We chose it based on website photos and descriptions that promised a clean, welcoming place for a special occasion. What we found fell far short, and the price made no sense for the service we received. Our vacation was a huge disappointment, marked by neglect, disrespect, and a lack of basic facilities. I hope management changes things so other guests don't go through the same problems. The room access was already off-putting: a dark, unwelcoming corridor that felt more like a boarding house than an inn. The corridor also had food scraps mixed together in containers for the owner's animals, attracting flies and adding to the sense of dirt. In our room, cleanliness was awful. We had paid for room service when booking, but got none during the stay. We had to use a dirty, poorly sanitized bathroom for days, until I finally cleaned it myself with supplies from the owner. There were constantly insects in the room, including cockroaches, mosquitoes, beetles, and geckos. At one point a gecko fell on my son while he was asleep. When I asked for help, the owner said, "that's part of nature," which felt completely dismissive. The breakfast had been advertised as having 31 items, but there were fewer than 20 options, many of poor quality. The cakes seemed industrial and not fresh, the cold cuts tasted unpleasant, and the slices were cut into small portions. It came across as excessive penny pinching and disrespect toward guests. The sheets and towels were stained and dirty, and clearly hadn't been washed after the previous guests. The owner's remark that stains might have come from chemicals in someone's hair ignored how awful the supplied linens were. On New Year's Eve, the inn didn't even provide proper glasses for a toast, so we had to buy disposable ones ourselves. There was no lighting at all, which also kept us from taking photos of the occasion.
