Hotel Shalon

The rooms were comfortable, the atmosphere pleasant, and the staff were great. Breakfast was tasty, pets are welcome, and the value for money is excellent. The location is great too.

The bedding wasn’t even changed. It’s the classic case of cheap ending up expensive. I was exhausted from traveling, found the place online and had no other option, but this was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. I don’t normally review places, but what a terrible experience. The rooms were dirty, the place was a mess, run-down and abandoned, like some ghost hotel. I don’t know how a dump like this is still open, or how anyone can call it a hotel.

The staff were helpful the whole time, and aside from the problems I had, the stay was reasonable. I came to town for a friend’s thesis defense, but I regretted my lodging choice. The bathroom felt unpleasant, with all the pipes exposed, and I worried something might leak from the upstairs trap or even the toilet. The hot water ran out early, so we had a cold shower in the morning. That ended up being the least of it. The bed sank in the middle when I lay down, leaving my head and feet level while my torso dipped into a C shape. The sheets and pillowcases were yellowed, which made me seriously question staying. We stayed because we were worried about the situation, and sometimes cheap ends up costing more. The parking didn’t feel very secure either. Around 9:30 pm the gate was just resting closed, with no guard or security camera. Some breakfast items seemed like they weren’t fresh that day, since they were hard or looked reheated. From the heart, I’d suggest the owners put a ceiling in the bathroom to make it feel more comfortable. Plaster and at least a coat of paint on the side facade would improve how it looks. They should also review the breakfast, beds and parking if they want to keep running this kind of place.

I liked the rooms, and the breakfast was great. There’s a place to park the car, and the stay is affordable. But when we arrived, there was a really strong smell of cigarettes. I loved it otherwise.
