Hotel Itamarati

Great.

Loved it.

The bathroom floor at Hotel Itamarati was slippery in both the dry and wet areas. On 22/11, after a 12-hour trip, my girlfriend and I checked in and she fell while showering, even though she was wearing flip-flops. There were no grab bars or anti-slip surfaces. We hadn't noticed any other obvious room problems before that happened. We had to rush to a hospital in a city we didn't know. When the receptionist told the owner of Hotel Itamarati what had happened, she only suggested that we call an Uber. No one at reception helped us get to the nearest hospital. We got back late that night and received no support then either. The next day, although the owners knew what had happened, they avoided us and didn't ask whether my girlfriend was okay or needed anything. She had lower back pain for about a week and took medication. Even now, we feel disregarded for having stayed somewhere that showed so little empathy toward its guests. I hope they improve, but we definitely wouldn't recommend staying there.

The building is older, but it feels cozy. The bedding was clean, the room had good airflow, breakfast offered plenty of choices, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The owner treated me very well too. Our departure from the garage ended on a very uncomfortable note. The owner was at the gate and made a disrespectful comment to my husband and me about the smell in our car, though it was clear he meant my perfume. We both recognized it as harassment right away. I was driving and left quickly to keep things from getting worse. My husband has trouble walking after a stroke and uses a walker. We'd already noticed the owner's indifferent, disrespectful looks toward him, which made us uncomfortable, and that comment made the whole thing even more disrespectful.
