A Stone s Throw Away

Room 7 has a lot of character, and I loved the Dutch-style carved wood bed on the balcony, which is enclosed on four of its five sides. The balcony, sunset and ocean views, friendly staff, and excellent Indian food were all highlights. Shaniqua was especially helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, with good air conditioning and Wi-Fi. The beach nearby was empty when we visited in December, and the bus is easy to catch, so we didn't need a car. It's also close to the airport but away from the tourist crowds. Breakfast was included and healthy, robes were provided, the pool was nice, and there are a couple of other restaurants within walking distance. The rate felt fair for what we got. The location of this room makes noise the main drawback. It's right over the dining and bar area, so music, staff, and guests below could be heard even with the doors and windows shut. Music played loudly from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., making it hard to relax or hear the ocean, and parties downstairs on Friday or Saturday nights were very loud. We also heard a neighbor's dog now and then. The shower pressure was low and the temperature kept changing. There isn't indoor dining, and the outdoor area could get too breezy. There's no coffee maker in the room, though coffee is available in the lobby. A Stone’s Throw Away has plenty of charm and lovely details. I'd consider another room if quiet mattered, but Room 7 could suit travelers who don't mind noise and want a convenient, distinctive stay.

The Indian food was delicious, and the view from this tranquil, beautiful place was fantastic. I'll be back soon and expect to make it a regular spot.

We stayed just one night, but my daughter and I liked it more than our four nights at Baha Mar, even though this place cost less than half as much per night. The location is ideal, with the beach only steps away and a bus stop right nearby. For $2, the quick ride takes you downtown. The hotel feels distinctive, our room was clean and attractive, and the view was great. Breakfast was simple, healthy, and surprisingly good, and the lobby views were just as lovely. The hotel's Indian restaurant is exceptional. When we arrived, the manager Marcie gave us each a complimentary T-shirt. She was professional and kind. The young man who showed us to the room also gave us a tour, though I can't remember his name. My only complaint was that the sink water pressure was a little low. Still, it's easily a five out of five for us.

If privacy and big views are what you want, I'd recommend this hotel. The terrace had amazing views and felt private, and service was great. The walk down the hill brought the amalfi Coast in italy to mind. Solemar was a great restaurant a short walk away, and this is the closest hotel to the airport. There's a private beach nearby, or you can take the bus to the more touristy beaches. I rode the bus into town for 4 rountrip.
