Grand Central Hotel

The only good thing was the WiFi. The place was old and run down, and the carpets smelled awful. We nearly got stuck in the elevator, and the bed was horrible, with plastic on it and parts that had sunk in. They advertised cable, but there was only one cable channel. The bathroom was okay, though the tub was rusty. The website gave one price, but it was different when we arrived. Thank goodness it was only one night, because I couldn't have done another. At least we didn't have bed bugs. They really need to upgrade, get rid of the old carpets and curtains, and fix up the bathroom.

The rooms are okay, but not the best, and it depends on which one you get. There isn't an iron or ironing board in the room, so you have to call the front desk, go fetch them, and bring them back when you're done. The elevator doesn't work, the ice machine is in deplorable shape, and the hallways are smelly and dirty. The hotel is too pricey and has no backup generator, even though the island has blackouts from time to time. There's no price reduction or refund during an outage, so you're stuck in the dark until the power comes back. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

The coffee and free water refills in that tiny lobby were the only reason this gets one star. The room itself was awful. The bathroom sink leaked badly, so a towel stayed soaked on the floor day and night, and the TV had no channels. The bed barely had any cushion between me and the springs. Room service walked straight in while I was changing without knocking, then got an attitude when I told the front desk there were no towels in my room, which is why she came. They cleaned with so much chlorine that my eyes hurt, so I had to leave the windows open with the AC blasting.

The hotel is right in downtown Nassau, Bahamas, so the location can work if you’re here for business. The room attendants, maids, and houseman were excellent. Everything else was horrendous. The front desk woman was rude and kept talking on her cellphone, and I had the same impression of the manager and owner. The price speaks for itself. There were bed bugs, and when I told the manager, he shrugged me off. I ended up with bites all over my forehead and arms.
