Viking Hill Oceanfront Hostel & Resort

It was nice, quiet and comfortable, with a nice view, and the cottage was clean with no sign of mold. Mercy was nice and we had no problem communicating on whats app. During a heavy rain, water came through the ceiling. They came right away to fix it, but the water infiltration signs on the walls make it look like this happens often. The property needs some love. It is old, and it looks like the owners aren't putting money into improvements. The pool didn't look clean, though someone cleaned it during our stay. It just looks old and used. The price felt a little high for what we got, though everything in Nassau is overprice.

The bed in the 10 bed mixed dorm was comfortable, and the room was spacious. There's a balcony, a pool and a bbq grill beside it. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, microwave and 2 plate hob, though only 1 works. The bathroom has 2 basins, 2 showers and one toilet. If you arrive and the lady who is meant to help with check-in isn't there, you'll need to contact the property manager on whatsapp, so you need internet access already. Luckily, I had an eSim and could call her. There's no supermarket within walking distance. You have to take a bus, and about 4pm is the latest to catch one that returns past the hostel. Otherwise, you'll need an expensive taxi. There are a few restaurants within walking distance if you check in late and can't get to a supermarket by bus. If you're going to Love Beach down the road, don't pay the $5 entry fee at Nirvana Beach Bar for beach access. There's a nearby path where you can get to the beach for free 😎

There was some stress during the stay, and it wasn't the kind of vacation we wanted, though it wasn't horrible. The property needs significant repairs and upgrades. We only got two towels and two beach towels for our 7 night stay, and when we asked for more, they suggested using the washer and dryer on site. It was difficult to contact anyone once we arrived in the Bahamas. Most cell phones won't work, and without WiFi you're screwed. The WiFi at Viking Hill was very weak and often dropped out. I mentioned it to the host, so hopefully she will address it.

It’s away from the busy areas and the oceanfront, which I really liked, and it’s close to the airport. The dorm was full, with around 12 beds. The shared bathroom needs attention: only one toilet worked, and the 1-2 shower stalls were in really poor shape.
