Khama Rhino Sanctuary

We loved our first camping stop in Botswana and stayed for two nights. There were plenty of animals to see, and we enjoyed driving through the park and spending time at the hide. Lots of great photo opportunities. The large campsites have a tap and running water but no electricity. We knew that already, and it didn’t bother us. The shop and restaurant are very basic, and they ran out of beer while we were there. There weren’t any souvenirs for sale in the shop. We’ll definitely return.

Even camping in the rain, we had a really nice stay. The park was great, and we saw a decent amount of game. The ablutions were clean and had hot water. Would recommend a visit!

The booking process was awkward, though check-in went a little better. The small fan heater they provided worked well when the night turned chilly. We left quickly the next morning because the shower was filthy. The reserve looks nice, and we keep hearing that people stay regularly, so the campsites and ablutions may be fine. But the accommodation, a two-bedroom unit with one bathroom, only looked okay at first. The braai stand was leaning badly, some linen was in such poor shape it shouldn’t have been used, and the mosquito nets were dusty and full of gogos. There was almost no kitchen equipment: four cups, one saucer and one glass, alongside a broken lamp. We travel often and had backup supplies, but this lack of quality control and management is unacceptable. So much potential, such a shame.

A 4x4 is needed for the soft sand, but the bush experience was wonderful. The private campsites are amazing, and the ablutions are great. The site shop was very poor, with no stock. Great birding and animal sightings.
