Gubernskiy Hotel

The music is what puts me off coming back. The song choices feel wrong for any age, and the singers have no talent. That's a shame, because the Gubernsky Restaurant has tasty food and a great atmosphere, with lovely old brick arches from when the building was constructed.

Breakfast came right to our room, which was very handy, and all the main sights were within walking distance. We were in Vitebsk for a couple of days and found the hotel on Yandex Maps; after looking through the photos and reviews, we booked three days before arriving. The management messaged us on WhatsApp that day to check when we'd get there. We drove in and found a large, convenient private parking lot. The receptionists were lovely and helpful. They showed us around, explained where things were, and walked us to our room. There are just six rooms in different categories, and ours was economy. It can sleep two and has two separate rooms with a single bed, plus a shared lounge, shower, and toilet. The shower and toilet are separate. The room was bright and roomy, with windows facing the courtyard. It could get a little noisy downstairs in the evening if we left the windows open, because of the tavern and summer terraces, but shutting them kept the sound out. The insulation was excellent. There was a fridge, TV, wardrobes, sofa, coffee table, and individual desks in each room. Breakfast was included in the rate and delivered to the room. If you're in Vitebsk, I'd recommend staying here.

The room felt cozy and was quiet, and there was plenty of space. The bathroom and toilet were clean. The bed was okay, though a bit uneven for me since I'm used to a particular mattress feel. I have a video showing the nightstands hadn't been cleaned and were dirty. Breakfast in the room came with instant coffee, and I missed having a decent cup. I'd rate it 4/5.

Daniil looked after us so thoughtfully. He suggested dishes and wine, put on soft music, and made sure we were comfortable without hovering. You could tell he cares about the job and his customers. We'd give him 10 stars, not just 5, and wish there were more waiters like him in all the restaurants of our glorious Vitebsk. We celebrated our mother's and grandmother's 82nd birthday on July 18th of this year. She's quite capricious 🙂, but all of us, including her, were delighted by the excellent food, pleasant atmosphere, and attentive waiters. A huge thank you to Daniil and the restaurant as a whole.
