Mariposa Belize Beach Resort

The food was very good, and the staff were outstanding, kind, sincere, and genuinely keen to make sure our needs were met. They were also capable of providing high level concierge help. The place had exactly the quiet, laid-back, comfortable feel we wanted. It was clean and nicely appointed without that sterile big brand atmosphere.

We chose a private cabin at Mariposa Resort for more seclusion than the rooms by the shared pool in the main building. We found the room perfectly adequate despite comments about the size, and the air conditioning was excellent, with a handy in-room bar. Marlon at the front desk and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Water pressure was a little low, though the rainhead showers made that a non-issue. The poolside bar was a nice touch, and there were plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. We enjoyed lunch and dinner at the on-site restaurant, where the food was consistently good. The resort is about 1.5 miles from town. We liked riding the free bikes there, though for a longer stay a golf cart might be useful. March brought a lot of seaweed, as is typical, and it made getting into the water difficult. The staff worked tirelessly every day to clear it and did everything they could. We had a wonderful stay in Placencia and would return.

The small number of treehouses and rooms around the main pool meant the resort never felt crowded. We stayed four nights in a garden treehouse, which was peaceful and spacious, with a covered porch, a table for two, and a hammock overlooking the well-kept garden. The bed had flowers and greenery arranged to spell 'Welcome'. We arrived early and were able to check in right away, with a welcome drink waiting for us. The pool was a perfect place to swim since seaweed had already reached the beach, and the pool bar and restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. We rode the available bikes into town several times for dinner and to spend time at the town beach. I liked that the resort wasn't in the downtown bustle, but we could still walk or bike to restaurants, shops, and bars. They can arrange excursions, though we prefer booking our own. We hadn't researched much before booking at Mariposa Beach Resort, and I'm so glad we chose it. It far exceeded my expectations and was one of our best Caribbean or Central American resort stays. The price was very reasonable for the experience.

We loved being able to take our kayaks and SUPs straight out from the beach, then relax with a drink by the water or pool. The restaurant had delicious food and a good variety, and it was easy to go into Placencia when we wanted something different. Staff were hospitable and helpful throughout our three nights at Mariposa Belize Beach Resort. The charming treehouse rooms were clean and comfortable. We visited a dozen places in Belize, and this is near the top of my list for a return trip.
