We came for four nights at The Regent while attending a workshop at Deanne Fitzpatrick’s rug Hooking studio. The house has potential, but I wouldn't recommend this B&B until it gets a thorough cleaning. There's a musty smell, dust is thick on the baseboards and picture tops, and the upstairs common area's old furniture is dusty too. Allergy sufferers beware. I dropped something and had to reach under the bed, where the dust was disgusting. You can see where the surface cleaning stops. The sheets were clean, but there were so many other issues. It was cold at breakfast, even though the night temperature was getting close to zero. The heat wasn't on until we noticed the furnace running on the third morning. We didn't feel welcome, and the cold house sent us back to our room with the heat on. We only ever saw Jim, and there didn't seem to be anyone else around. On arrival, we were asked what time we'd like breakfast, which is served between 7 and 9, then told it would be at 8. At 8:30, while we were having coffee and breakfast and talking with two other women, Jim came in and said it was time for us to leave or we'd be late. Three out of four days, I picked dog hair out of my yogurt. The two dogs barked whenever we came in or moved around the house. One morning the sausage was black and dried out, and the eggs were overcooked. There was no apology, and nobody at the table was asked how they wanted their eggs. I need to correct one thing from my original review: I said we paid $175 a night, but I couldn't figure out how to edit it. We actually paid $150 a night split between the two of us, $75 each, or $299 each for four nights. The owner says we paid below his posted rate of $65 a night, but we have the MasterCard receipt showing otherwise. We'll have to agree to disagree. The dust wasn't from construction, and I know the difference. Other reviews mention the same smell, dust, and dogs, so I stand by what I wrote. I do believe the home has wonderful potential and hope the issues are addressed. By comparison, this week we're in an air bnb in Picton Ontario called #thewoodvillechurch, circa 1828. It's warm, inviting, and clean, with no musty smell.

At first glance, the breakfast setup looked beautiful, but closer inspection showed stained linens. The sheets in the room were clean and crisp, though. This lovely, majestic home from around 1894 isn't being maintained to its potential. It felt dusty, dark, hot, and poorly lit, and on arrival we felt as if nobody expected us. The air conditioner hadn't been turned on, leaving the room stale and hard to breathe in. It did work once turned on, but rattled, clanged, and vibrated noisily. The walls were stained and the baseboards dirty. The small fridge was adequate but unplugged. After we plugged it in and turned it high to cool quickly, it still didn't work well, and our water wasn't cold the next morning.

I was in Amherst house hunting and stayed here. The room was okay, and breakfast was limited but okay too. The place felt dark and old, though I know it's an older home. Their dog barked constantly, which was a bit much, even though we love dogs and have them ourselves. Maybe they should rename the place after the dog.

It's a beautiful home, but it needs a good cleaning. The smell may come from the home's age, as well as the owner's animals. I wouldn't recommend this B&B.

The breakfast was delicious, with something different each day. The place itself was beautiful, and the atmosphere felt pleasant.
