The price changed by $100 between the phone quote and arrival, and by then my choices were a steep cancellation fee, driving another 200 miles back to Whitehorse, or continuing on a rough road in pitch darkness at no more than 50 kph toward Tok. I felt trapped, and they knew it. In winter, they’re the only place open nearby and seem to take full advantage of travelers. I heard Alaska moves was what kept them going through winter and covid. What a shame. For a budget room at $100-120, you share a bathroom with four others. The family suite was okay, but at $250, plus a fee for each person over the two-person limit and another $35 for the dog, I expected more. I could hear staff and customers through the floor until 11 pm. No breakfast sandwich was included, either. The one for sale was $10 and worse than a Burger King breakfast sandwich. Avoid this place. Plan to stop earlier or push on to Tok.

A cute little spot that appears just when the road starts feeling like the middle of nowhere. The room was cozy and comfortable, but the winter rate of $200 a night felt too high, especially with another $35 for a pet. I’m from the country, so I know things can go wrong at -30. The furnace wasn’t working, and the only heat was a space heater. The power kept tripping, cutting out the heater, TV, and a light, so I had to move things to different outlets a couple of times. I understand the weather can cause problems, but that price didn’t feel fair.

We had trouble with something not working during a stay, and after we told the manager we didn’t feel we’d gotten what we paid for, they offered a partial refund. I appreciated the honest way they handled it. I’d gladly stay again.

The staff gave me such a warm, fun welcome in the morning that I set off on the next stretch of my roughly 3,000-mile drive in a great mood. I’d come through on a freezing winter day leaving Alaska, and was so glad to get into a room. It wasn’t fancy, but the rocking chair, heater, comfortable bed, and hot shower were all I needed.

The young guy at the store and front desk was kind and welcoming. I like the rustic old log-cabin feel here, and the bed is comfortable with everything you need. It’s the Yukon, so the rooms aren’t five-star, and that’s part of the charm. I love stopping here when I’m driving the Alcan.
