Chateau Big White

At $350 a night, this didn’t feel worthwhile. The building and rooms look about 50 years old, the carpets are very dirty, and the toilet seems designed for tiny people. The windows don’t block sound, so snow machines running outside all night made it hard to sleep. Restrooms were closed, and there’s no concierge on site. Check-in and checkout times are especially inconvenient if you want to take ski lessons or get out skiing easily. Customer service was the worst I’ve encountered at a Canadian ski resort. No surprise the parking lot was empty.

The location is fantastic, right by the market place, lift office, and restaurants. You can walk straight to skiing too!

We got lots of natural light in room 201, a corner unit where the back patio opens right onto the village. It was ideal for skiing in and out. The front desk team were friendly and helpful, and even brought our luggage up from underground parking. We stayed six nights. We’d been warned at booking about possible noise from people walking through the village, but that wasn’t an issue for us. It was quiet on five nights; on the other, Snowshoe Sams next door played loud music until 1 a.m. The kitchen had what we needed: a full fridge, dishwasher, two-burner stovetop, and cooking supplies. I’d bring scissors, dish soap, a scrubby, paper towels, food containers, and Ziploc bags. As snowboarders, we loved the mountain and powder, a 10/10 for us. My fiancé especially enjoyed the untouched glades, and the snow alone would bring us back to Big White. Staff and other vacationers were all so friendly. We also ate well at BullWheel restaurant in the village, and the pizza from The Market across from Chateau Big White was very good. There are plenty of souvenir shops around the village. The laundry was the one problem. The washing machine left our clothes smelling like urine. We don’t know if the previous load was soiled or the machine was old, but we had to wait until we got home to wash everything again. We reported it to staff and hope it’s been fixed.

There was definitely some nighttime noise, but after skiing all day it didn’t keep me up. The space worked well for two adults and two teenagers.
