The server was great, and that’s why I’m giving two stars instead of one. The meal itself was only somewhat satisfactory, and the prices were ridiculous for what we got. I called ahead and was told there were vegan options, but once there, none were available. The server suggested the Thai curry from the pub, basically vegetables in coconut cream sauce, something I could get anywhere. Vegan food isn’t new, and there should be at least one decent option. A burger doesn’t count. We weren’t given bread because the server said it was all stale, so we got none at all. The dinner cost $300. I’ll never return, and I’ll make sure people I know don’t either. Beyond disappointed.

The bed was comfy, the room was cute, and the Barley Room was great. The other staff were nice and doing their best, but getting help was a struggle from start to finish. I spent over two weeks sending messages to confirm my reservation, then had to reach out on Facebook to get a reply a few days before our stay. We’d booked a breakfast package, but there was nobody at the onsite restaurant except a confused baker who didn’t know where the host or cook was. During the stay, the bed was made and towels were dropped off, but the coffee station wasn’t restocked and the bins stayed full. Dead beetles remained on the windowsill the whole time, and we could hear creatures scurrying in the roof. On our last morning, there was nobody to talk to, so we left the key in an empty registration building. The place felt deserted. I also had to call repeatedly for an invoice. After I finally got through on Facebook, someone asked for another email address, which I gave them. The next day I had to call again, and the woman who answered acted as if I was bothering her and didn’t have the new address. She was rude. The owner asked me to email all the details, which I did, but nothing was done. Customer service needs to be available, or they should close the inn for winter. I’m very disappointed with this facility.

The fish and chips my daughter ordered was the best of the three meals. We went for lunch during Countylicious, and of the three restaurants we visited for the event, this was our least favourite. Our waitress was pleasant and knew enough about the menu, though we had to ask for water refills. There was lipstick on my husband’s beer glass. My cheddar soup was watery and sweet, separated, and wouldn’t come together when stirred. My husband couldn’t finish his. My daughter had to ask for beets in my beet salad because there weren’t any visible. His lamb burger tasted gamey but lacked flavour, and came without the coleslaw listed on the menu. My chicken was very dry and the potatoes undercooked. We wouldn’t return or recommend it.

Ashley and Kelly in the dining room made us feel so welcome and special with their friendly, attentive service. We stayed overnight at Waring House and had an amazing time. The room was huge and beautifully decorated, the location in beautiful PEC was perfect, and both dinner and breakfast were incredible. We also enjoyed the pub, where Bobby and Johnnie were talented and entertaining. The only small frustration was reaching the reservation staff. It took me over a week to get a response, though they were helpful once I finally spoke to them. I highly recommend a meal or stay. We’ll be back.

We chose to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with dinner on Dec. 21st, and it was the worst meal we’ve ever had. The vegetables were mushy and colourless from overheating. The mashed potatoes were in a crusted mound, tasteless, and warmed through but not hot. I had the lamb shank, which was dry and tough, while my husband’s pickerel was overcooked and dried out. It all seemed reheated from the night before, when the restaurant had a large buffet gathering. At least everything was consistently terrible. We couldn’t leave the table fast enough.
