We had no other options when Radium and the surrounding area were full on Sept 20, but the price felt like highway robbery: $338 plus $113 in taxes. At best, I think it should’ve been $90 a night, or 50% lower. The room hasn’t been updated in years. The beds were awful, the toilet kept running, the sink drained slowly, and the tap was hard to turn on and off. There were only two tiny Dixie cups for water or coffee, despite the room sleeping four, and just two towels. No soap or amenities either. The door had an actual metal key and didn’t seem very secure. You have to take a photo of the WiFi password at the registration desk. At least the room didn’t smell, the bedding smelled fresh, and the woman at check-in was nice. The guests upstairs were quiet walkers, even though we could hear every squeak of their steps. I would’ve gladly driven an extra hour to avoid this stay.

We booked at the last minute because it was the cheapest option. It was basic and did the trick, but we’d expected a 3.5-star room and this wasn’t one. The room was very old, and the bed and pillows seemed even older. There were no cups, coffee, or anything like that. You could hear every step and laugh from upstairs, so it was very loud. The balcony had a beautiful view. We didn’t have much interaction with the service, so that’s neutral.

The location is beautiful, and this place could be something special. But the massive spiders on the balcony seemed to have first claim on that gorgeous mountain view. Inside, both beds had mystery hairs and questionable stains. The pillows had yellow splotches and looked like they’d been used to wipe off mascara. My request for extra pillows was ignored, which may have been for the best. Bugs came free with the room, and they weren’t the small, easy-to-ignore kind. The bathroom door wouldn’t close, the tub had more mold than grout, and the ceiling was moldy too. There were half-used toiletries left in the drawers by a previous guest. Even the outside of the freezer was frozen over. If Rocky Mountain Spring Lodge put money into bleach and bug control, this could be a very different stay. For now, I’d admire the scenery from somewhere else.

We couldn’t get any rest because the bed was uncomfortable and the guests below us partied loudly until 1 a.m. I called the front desk to ask someone to deal with the noise, but nobody ever showed up. The room was also filthy. After walking around briefly, our feet were completely black from the floors. The sheets and towels were yellow and looked as if they hadn’t been properly cleaned in ages. Water leaked all over the place from the fridge, and there wasn’t even basic soap in the bathroom. The property felt dirty and poorly maintained, and the staff didn’t seem to care.

The location is great, but this needs attention and should cost 50% less. I feel bad for visitors from outside Canada having this experience. The receptionist wore a cut-off sleeve shirt, and there was no brand representation, despite expectations being quite high. I’d love to see the hotel and Chalet renovated, and a functional restaurant would be nice.
