We found the guesthome clean, comfortable, and well laid out, and the Family Adventure Bunk Room worked perfectly for our group of six. My sister came from Toronto with her little one and used the other double bunk. The memory foam mattresses were more comfortable than we'd expected, and the kids loved the adult-sized bunks because it felt like a sleepover. We were there for two nights at the end of August, and all of us slept well despite other guests upstairs. We saved money compared with getting two hotel rooms, and my husband and I would definitely recommend it to families who want to stay together. One useful tip: book the Economy Double Room as well as the Family Bunk Room and you get the whole lower level to yourselves, almost like a private suite. The kitchen is upstairs, so it's not fully self-contained, but that was fine for us since we mostly ate out and used the microwave for quick reheats. We also made friends with a lovely couple from Latvia who were staying there at the same time. Heritage Park was on both our lists, so they joined us for a fun day there.

I tried two kinds of room here, and both left me with problems. In the dorm, there was so little headroom above the upper bunk that I hit my head getting up. It left a large bump that took a long time to heal. Once I was home it got worse, and I had to go to the emergency room, which cost me 800. I also booked a single room, where the environment was acceptable, but shortly after 9 a.m. I was told to remove my belongings because housekeeping needed to clean. Check-out should reasonably be at least 11 a.m.; asking a guest to leave before the official time is completely inappropriate. The dorm was very different from other hostels.

This was extremely upsetting and unacceptable. The owner was physically aggressive toward both me and my child, and I cannot recommend this guest house. Please be cautious. What was presented as an upgrade turned into dishonesty, aggression, and violence. No guest, especially a child, should be treated this way. I had paid extra for a second-floor room because I was traveling with my young daughter. The owner greeted us smiling, said, “It’s your first time here, right? I upgraded your room,” and directed us to the entrance room I had specifically avoided when booking. I politely explained and asked to see the room I had reserved, but instead he became defensive and aggressive, asking, “You don’t trust me?” He said the room I paid for was already taken, and that I would have to leave if I didn't want the entrance room. When I asked about a refund, he told me to contact my travel agency. I did, and was waiting to hear back. Soon afterward he said, “I don’t want to waste my time—get out.” I tried to explain that I needed written confirmation of the refund, but he suddenly and aggressively took my belongings outside. My daughter came with me when I followed to stop him handling our things, and he pushed her, injuring her leg. We were forced out with our belongings, and our shoes were thrown outside. I had to call the police.

I had to leave a day early, at 3 AM, because of unforeseen circumstances, even though I'd booked longer. The owner was incredibly kind and accommodating, and even moved me to a room closer to the door to make the early checkout easier. The guesthouse was clean and peaceful, and the host shared great local tips. I only stayed two days, but I'm already looking forward to coming back, and I'll definitely book here again. Thanks again for being so thoughtful and generous!

It's a suburban neighborhood, so there isn't a coffee shop nearby. During Stampede, though, it was great to find an affordable option. The rooms and shared kitchen and bath were fine, but you can hear pretty much everything, so they have very strict noise limits.
