Lakeview Inns & Suites - Chetwynd

The people here are incredibly kind, and my room was clean, well looked after and made comfortable. The main problem is the lack of Wi-Fi, which is why I gave it two stars. Other reviews mention the same issue: nice staff and rooms, but no internet. A lot of guests stay for work, so the hotel needs to treat this as a priority if it wants to keep doing business. I shouldn't have to pay $117 a night and then hurry over to Tim Hortons to send my daily work forms and contact colleagues in other provinces. Without better internet, I worry the hotel will keep losing business.

The internet is absolutely terrible, and breakfast isn't great either. There's only one bar of Wi-Fi, so I can't stream or even do paperwork after a long day at work. All I can do is sit there watching the loading wheel spin.

The front counter staff are still awesome, polite and willing to help however they can. I hope Lakeview addresses the problems and brings the place back to how it was a couple of years ago. Compared with the majority of other hotels in town, it's still better, and it isn't a terrible place to stay. But since I was last here in 2019, it's clearly gone downhill. The grout is missing around cracked tiles, and hot water takes several minutes to arrive. The water smells horribly moldy and rotten. A new boiler has been sitting out front for at least a month, but I have no idea when it'll be installed. The fire escape door's hydraulic closer is broken, so it slams and wakes people as early as 4:30 am. There's no seal on that door and gaps underneath it, so creepy-crawlies keep getting into the rooms. The breakfast room chairs need a good cleaning, and the dining tables used to be kept clean. There are other noticeable issues too.

It's beside the railway, so expect to hear train horns now and then. I used white noise to sleep well. The lobby, corridors and my room looked old, dim and a bit dirty, although the bathroom was newly renovated and clean. They offer complimentary warm breakfasts with things like sausage, eggs, bacon, cheese, butter and jam. All in all, it's a good place to stay.
