The Bunkhouse

The location is great, the rooms are cute, and the showers were hot and clean. I didn’t mind the noise or the few spiders. But the sheets hadn’t been changed, and that’s not okay. I worked as a housekeeper in Texas for years, and it was obvious: there was other people’s hair in the bed. They’d fluffed the sheets to make them look clean, but changed sheets shouldn’t have lint in them. That’s the only reason I’m giving one star. It’s an old building, so creaky floors and the occasional spider are understandable, but the sheets could be washed. Dirty bedding can carry sweat, snot, lice, or bedbugs. Check under the sheets before you sleep, for your own sake. For some reason, they don’t list their hours on the website or Google, so I attached a picture of them.

We arrived on the busiest weekend and managed to get the last room. The only problem was that we couldn’t stay longer. The rooms are clean and quiet, and work really well for a Dawson visit. Don’t worry about sharing a bathroom: the rooms are very private, and the sinks and showers are fantastic.

We booked at the last minute after the visitor center suggested the Bunkhouse hotel. The simple rooms are really cute, and we found everything very clean. We used the shared bathroom, where towels, soap, shampoo, and conditioner were provided. There was an event next door, so it got a little noisy that night, though I don’t know if it’s like that every night. It’s right in town, close to everything. Next time we’ll ask for an extra pillow. Otherwise, perfect.

This was the best value hotel on my trip. I liked it enough to stay again on my way back from Tuk. You do need to be okay with just having a room and sharing the bathrooms, microwave, and other facilities. The mattress was the best I slept on in Canada, the place was clean, and the Wi-Fi stayed connected and worked. The room and services were better than average, and they deliver well on their simple concept. My only complaint was the window: it stuck in my first room and was sticky in the second, so you have to fiddle with them. The power cube was great, too, so I didn’t have to hunt for an outlet that was too old to hold a plug.
