The beds were excellent, and the food was very good. We stayed four nights and would return. This isn't the Ritz, but the old-world charm made the visit refreshing. It can feel rustic in winter, and you'll enjoy it more if you don't expect a polished, high-end place. The buildings could use a handyman. I am one, so I noticed some things were in disrepair. Still, they manage the place with very few staff, and we were well cared for. The meals were excellent, and all the spa jets worked. The water was around body temperature. It tends to be cooler indoors than you might expect, so we routinely wore sweaters. Rooms come with fireplaces. You may need to get your own wood, though plenty is provided.

There was no water at all in our room after we came back from the pool, so we couldn't shower or flush the toilet. The front desk blamed filters and the kitchen's dishwashers, among other things, and gave us the runaround. If this is a known problem, guests shouldn't be left without a basic necessity. There had already been very little water when we arrived, and it kept getting worse. The pool room was only 65 degrees. Broken tiles were scattered around the pool, and several jets didn't work. We had also paid extra for a jacuzzi room, but couldn't fill the tub. When water was available, it barely trickled from the taps and was barely warm. It would have taken hours to fill it with cold water. Getting there was stressful, too. The snowy parking lot hadn't been cleared, making unloading feel unsafe. Our room was run down and nothing like the online photos. The fireplace was missing a glass door and its damper adjustment, and there was no paper or fire starter. We paid spa prices for a motel environment. Dinner took incredibly long even though only a handful of tables were occupied, and the food was mediocre at best for the price. The charcuterie board we'd paid to have in the room was missing cheese knives, napkins, and any serving items. After driving hours to get there and going without water, we were offered just $50 off when we complained. That felt like a slap in the face. I expected far more for what we paid. We won't return, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Breakfast was amazing, fresh, and really generous. We also had dinner one night: steak, pickerel, and chicken were good, and the service was okay. I'd go back. The inn has large rooms and lots of great common areas, all laid out nicely. It is a little run down, though, and could use some basic maintenance in the rooms and pool area.

We told the front desk within an hour that we wouldn't stay the night. The room was 12°C when we arrived, and the fireplace wasn't stocked. The baseboard heat couldn't warm the room, and the door lock was broken. We could hear everything from the rooms above and beside us through the paper-thin walls. The tub was stained and dirty. The room felt nothing like the cozy, inviting, remotely luxurious getaway we expected for a birthday night away from the kids. The online pictures absolutely don't match the small, outdated rooms, which were poorly lit in a dirty, unromantic way. This shouldn't be called a spa, and the price should be motel-level. We were told a manager would contact us the next day, but that never happened. A generic email offered a rebate, yet we're still being sent an invoice to pay. The false advertising and overall atmosphere left us very disappointed.

The staff were super friendly and accommodating, and the building's age hasn't taken away its charm. We had a wonderful weekend and definitely want to come back to see the place in every season, especially with ski hills and wolf sanctuaries nearby. We stayed two nights in room 11 for my birthday. It felt private and intimate, with a cute little balcony overlooking the lake. The bed was comfortable, and the room had a wood-burning fireplace. The bathroom's waterbubbler tub fit two comfortably, and its window still let us see the lake. We had three meals in the fires restaurant, and both meals were really good. We even got to choose a bottle from the wine cellar that wasn't on the menu. There was plenty to do: the pub had pool, shuffleboard, darts, and foosball, plus live music Saturday night. We also enjoyed the lakeside fire pit, games room, sauna, water Spa, and fantastic massages. The lounger in the water Spa was a great spot to relax and read.
