Downeast Motel

The shower pressure is fantastic, and the unusual little showerhead is surprisingly good. Our room smelled fresh, the beds were clean, and the bathroom had clearly been cleaned well. I checked for bugs or critters because the general feel made me wary, but found no sign of any. Staff also responded quickly when we raised concerns. It’s still probably the cheapest place to stay in Windsor. That said, the motel has slipped since our last visit about two years ago. COVID may have taken a toll, and it seems there’s new ownership and more monthly renters. We were traveling out of season, so I understand they need to keep income coming in to stay open. Our room was meant to be one of the monthly units that had just been vacated. It wasn’t ready at check-in, but I was fine waiting another hour and a half. Even then, it needed a better clean: the chair cushions should have been lifted to vacuum underneath, the mirror needed wiping, and the carpet could probably use shampooing, though I didn’t see anything especially bad on it. The fridge was missing, and we had to call to have toilet paper brought up. I can’t say we’d definitely stay again, even if it meant paying more somewhere else.

For $80 a night, the workers' rate is hard to beat. A decent bed and shower after a workday make this a handy stop for movers and truckers passing through town. The receptionist was really nice and accommodating with everything.

There was plenty of room to spread out, and the room was warm enough to escape the cold. The TV was decent and the WiFi strong for entertainment. But the shower drain didn’t work properly, so after a shower before bed we had to listen to dripping for the next hour. There was also just one key for a room with two beds.

We never even stayed. We called, heard a room was available, and drove all the way from Halifax, only to turn around in the driveway. There were people all over, their belongings everywhere, loud music, and even a car up on ramps being worked on. The whole place stank of pot. I’m pretty sure most rooms had people living in them. That may be fine, but it’s not okay to rent to travelers who expect the motel and atmosphere shown on the website.
