Haven Inn

I’d definitely recommend this place and come back when I’m in town. There are plenty of amenities nearby, and the area is quiet and decent, actually nicer than much of the city, though nowhere is perfect. I’d stayed here under the previous management and only had the cheap price to say anything good about. This time I expected little beyond an affordable night while passing through Hamilton, but was pleasantly surprised by the improvements: fresh paint and repairs, clean modern bedding, working basic appliances, no odor, and a good-sized TV with Wi-Fi and cable. It was under $100, and check-in was quick and easy. The managers and staff were kind and helpful with what we needed.

We left at 8 a.m. that same morning because the room was so poorly cleaned. We’d arrived around 4 a.m. after our flight landed at 3, and found hair all over the bed, dirty towels, a strong smoke smell, and unclean floors. It was obvious the room hadn’t been properly serviced. Since we didn’t stay the second night, we asked the office for a refund for it, but they refused. Given what we found, we thought a refund would have been fair. It was a very unpleasant experience, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

For $100 including taxes, this was decent and I’d come back. The employee was friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the sheets, blanket, and sink were all clean. There were flowers outside the doors, and the quirky decor made us laugh: red doors, purple sequin lampshades, a fake window view that I think showed a field of flowers, and an aquarium channel on the TV. The area isn’t great. By 9 p.m., three police cars and some officers were hanging around the variety store. I’d expected a dive, especially after staying in some much worse places that cost more, but this one was really clean. No issues.

We had to spend two separate nights here in one week while our apartment was being maintained, and it worked out well. They let us bring our bird without charging extra. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed and sheets were good, and there was AC. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and check-in and checkout were both really nice. For the price, it’s a good motel and a nice place to stay.
