McMaster Accommodations

For a place in Hamilton, the location was decent. Almost everything else made this an awful stay. The bed had one flattened pillow, the toilet was clogged, and the bedding was filthy, with pubic hair, crumbs, stains, and stones on the sheets. My wife was bitten twice by some kind of insect or bed bugs, as the photos show. She developed very swollen, itchy, painful sores that oozed blood and clear fluid for weeks and needed medical care, antibiotics, and Prednisone. There was a dangerous pit just millimeters from the walkway. In summer, with no A/C and no breeze even through open windows with a fan, temperatures went above 90°C. We reserved and paid for a room late one night, but in the pouring rain were turned away and told someone else had booked it after us. They kept our money, which wasn't refunded until nearly a week later. On another occasion, after we'd paid for almost a week, police woke us one morning and said the room was double booked. Though we showed proof of payment for the next five days, they said we had to leave right away and had no right to stay. Management gave no explanation and no one was there or reachable by phone or email. The management response claiming police had been called twice is fabricated. The police were there to make us leave, and we were no longer accessing the property. We waited seven days for our $450 refund. McMaster Accommodations offered no compensation for the serious, unprofessional error that left us on the street, without our money, and unable to afford even one night elsewhere until it was returned. We also spent four hours in the sweltering living room waiting for a supervisor to arrive and look up our booking and room number or key. The owner was never present, stayed completely hands-off, and was almost impossible to reach to discuss the problems. I urge people to take this review seriously so no one else goes through the nightmare of what was supposed to be a comfortable stay. I'd give zero stars if I could.

The location is hard to beat, with restaurants, fast food, groceries, and shopping within walking distance, plus McMaster Uni just minutes away. Dundas is close too, with shops and lovely scenery. I stayed long term right before moving into my apartment, and Walter was a godsend. He was kind, responsive, and made room for the time I needed while I dealt with the move. Other hosts I've had through years of travel from the GTA don't compare. The people were friendly, and even the cleaning staff helped me feel at home. My stay was clean and comfortable, and the price was hard to beat for the location and quality. Great for work or leisure, and for students or teachers too. Thanks again to Walter and his staff!

I was here a little over a week for work nearby. The landlord was really nice and kept the tidy house clean and stocked. It's a good spot for McMaster students, with late-night food and small pubs close by. I'd recommend it to students or anyone who wants clean, quiet accommodation in the area.

Fab, the Haitian woman, was very welcoming. But my wife and I were bitten by bedbugs during our two nights there, and it landed me in the hospital. Those two nights are my biggest regret, and I would never recommend the place to anyone. Management also left a dugged pit, a big hole, right in front of the building, which is especially dangerous at night.
