Auberge Le P'tit Bonheur - Hostel

We’re simple travelers and don’t need much from a place to stay. My girlfriend wanted a private room and bathroom, and the room we booked was $80/American [at the time], which felt just right for us, comfortable without extras at a good price. The room was perfect. We could adjust the temperature easily, and the warm down comforter meant we could turn it down and still sleep comfortably. The TV had several streaming services. There’s also a large common area with plenty of casual seating, plus dining tables and chairs. No one was there to greet us when we arrived, which was confusing until I spotted a sign saying, "office is closed, check your email." The email had the door code and clear instructions. There isn’t really food nearby. Everything is about a half hour away, so eat before arriving or bring food. The next morning, a gentleman I believe was with a touring company happened to meet us outside and warned us the steep hill by the road was slippery. He was right, our car slid down it. Without the warning, we might not have been prepared. I imagine a 4-wheel drive vehicle would help get up the hill.

We were stuck without a place for the night over the Labour Day long weekend, and the owner kindly let my family camp. The home is genuinely historic and has been lovingly kept in the family. The kitchen and dining area are large and well equipped, and the bathrooms were clean. We’re very grateful and highly recommend it.

I had a good time here. The staff were friendly and helpful, and one of them was happy to tell me about the area. It’s a really relaxing place, with a backyard where you can lie in the tree bag or make a wood fire and chat with friends. The parking area is gravel and sand, and the entrance is easy to miss. The road is fast, 80 km/h, and the entrance isn’t big.

The location is picturesque, and the room was clean enough, though a bit run down. For what they offer, it felt too expensive. There was no TV, AC, or even potable water. It was fine for a single night, but next time I’d look elsewhere.
