HI Kelowna Hostel

The outdoor area was a relaxing place to eat or read, and the kitchen was excellent and kept clean by both staff and guests. The rooms and common areas were very clean, and the staff were friendly. I've stayed in a lot of hostels, and this one is great value for money for a short or medium stay. It's close to everything, with the lakeside beach just one block away.

This is the only hostel in town, so there isn't much choice. I stayed here 10 years ago, when it was a Samesun hostel, and it was nice then. It feels like it's gone downhill since. There are no curtains, and the bathrooms are a bit dingy.

The kitchen was super tidy and well organized, and the washrooms were clean too. I spent one night in a female dorm; the room was clean and had its own heater. The shower was warm with strong pressure, and it was a nice place to hang out with friends.

Sleep was over at 03:45 when another guest arrived drunk, fell up the stairs three times, made a huge amount of noise, then turned the TV up really loud. Quiet time is supposed to start after 10pm. The bathroom fan was loud enough to wake the dead, and the shower stall was coffin-sized, with a low-flow head that had no pressure. The room hadn't been swept and wasn't very clean overall. Getting there is a pain too: you have to go through a residential area with mean speed bumps, and if you miss the driveway on Harvey, you have to go all the way around. For a cheap place, it adds up after arrival, since parking is $10 and you can't eat in your room. I don't know what they charge if you don't bring your sheets down, but your card would definitely get dinged.
