Algonquin Motel

For our guys’ fishing weekend, the hotel was fine, and the people were really nice. The recycling bin was never emptied during our three-night stay, even though staff made the beds each morning, so it ended up overflowing. I might choose somewhere else for a weekend away with my wife. A few more pictures on the walls would help, and I’m still wondering why there was an extra microwave in the closet.

I had to cancel because a problem came up. When I called and explained, I was told to go through the website, which said it would contact the hotel and get a reply within 24 hours. Six hours later, the full room charge had gone through and I still hadn’t heard from the hotel. I called again about a refund. They said the website takes 15%, which seemed fair, and I wasn’t expecting all my money back since I’d held the room. The person took my name and said she’d ask the owner about refunding $40. I was happy with that, but three days went by with no reply. I was charged for the whole room and then ignored. It’s just sad. Mistakes happen, but there was no care or concern for customers.

The rooms were very clean, and the owners were friendly. We did miss having a way to make hot drinks. Apart from that, it was what we expected for an inexpensive, quick getaway.

We picked this place for the price and had a simple, comfortable room that was very clean for our weekend as a couple. I saw another review mention a curry smell. It was at the front desk, where the owner’s family lives on site. A nice budget stay, and I’d recommend it.
