The hotel was clean and quiet, and the updated rooms had comfortable beds. The hot breakfast let me down a little, but the orange juice and coffee were good. I was glad there were muffins, yogurt, and other choices too.

We had a lovely, comfortable stay and slept well. The location is handy for restaurants and shops, and the service was exceptional. The breakfast coffee wasn’t good at all, but that didn’t put me off the place. Thanks, we’ll come back.

I’d stay again if I could rent a drive-up room facing the river. We were on the second floor facing the road, and the noise from Main street kept me awake. It was especially the loud exhausts on some vehicles, not so much the general traffic. Earplugs didn’t help, so bring noise-cancelling headphones if that bothers you. The rooms are small and dated, but very clean. Reception and the dining area were clean too, and the staff were friendly and welcoming at both check-in and checkout. Breakfast was the usual eggs, sausages, beans, and so on, with no complaints from me.

The room was so upsetting that I went back downstairs and cried, thinking I’d have to spend the night there. The walls had chunks missing at the corners and grease marks, the windowsill was scuffed with dirt, and the bed skirt had what looked like dirt or bleach on it. There were fingerprints all over the desk. It looked nothing like the photo. If I wanted motel quality, I could have paid half as much at a motel. I’d booked around 9 p.m. after being storm-stayed in moncton and unable to drive back to fredericton. I just needed a place to sleep. The man at the desk wasn’t very polite and barely spoke before handing me the key and giving the usual wifi and breakfast details. I wasn’t especially bothered by that, but when I calmly asked to cancel because I wasn’t happy with the room, he said he couldn’t because I’d booked through booking.com. I hadn’t paid yet and was supposed to be charged at the hotel, but he kept saying there was nothing he could do and I’d have to contact them. A customer service rep was very helpful and managed to cancel it. When I told the desk clerk, he gestured for me to leave and confirmed I could go, without even a scripted apology. I was charged $300 and then refunded in full, even though the booking was listed at $129 plus taxes. I don’t know where the $300 came from. I work in a restaurant, and I’d probably lose my job if I treated a customer that way. I’d give the whole experience zero stars if I could. I wouldn’t stay there again, and think a motel would likely be cleaner and treat guests better. I can’t understand how this hotel has a 4-star rating.

It was stressful having to find another hotel at short notice, though at least they didn’t charge us. I’d booked plenty of hotel rooms before and had never been required to show a physical card at check-in. I’d forgotten my credit card at home, and the staff wouldn’t accept my Visa debit. I know that part was my fault, but the card requirement hadn’t been made clear when I booked. They kept repeating that their machines were new and needed the card inserted. We found them arrogant, and when my spouse tried to work something out while I called a friend for help, another man came out from behind the desk. We felt he was trying to intimidate us. We had to book somewhere else, where the staff were far better and didn’t ask for a physical card. I’d hoped for a good experience, so it was really unfortunate.
