The bathrooms and showers were so dirty that I couldn’t bring myself to use them, and the noise went on until around 5 AM, with drunk people screaming and singing through the night. I could barely sleep. The air felt awful too, with everyone in the room coughing or wheezing, and it honestly seemed unhealthy to breathe there. The hallway was filthy as soon as I walked in. There were holes in the walls and ceiling, visible mould, and a large pool of water near a hole in the ceiling. The host said it was from a toilet upstairs that had leaked years ago. The whole building felt unhygienic and unsafe. A homeless person was sleeping in the entrance hallway outside the hostel door, and nobody picked up when I called several times on arrival. I’ve stayed in plenty of hostels and never seen one this bad. Mould can seriously affect physical and mental health, and I’m sure these conditions breach several health and safety codes. Auberge L’Apéro needs to be shut down or completely renovated. There’s another hostel nearby that’s much cleaner and more comfortable, along with several other affordable options. For your sanity, go there instead. This place is not worth the price or your health. You’ll regret staying here.

The bed was clean, the hospitality was great, the location was good, and the other guests were quiet and respectful. You get what you pay for, and some people calling it terrible might forget they paid $30 to stay in mtl. The common areas have clearly been lived in for a long time, so don’t expect anything new. I’ll definitely be back.

I had a great three-night stay. The rooms are spacious, the bunk beds and bedding were clean, and the wifi was good for streaming, gaming, or work. The location is especially handy if you need to be downtown. The staff understand the history behind this hostel and keep its values alive in how they run it. Please stop hating on a place because it’s financially accessible. Everyone deserves a roof over their head. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in Montreal!

The common area has a homely feel, with space to cook and hang out. The staff were kind and knew their stuff when it came to travel advice. It’s a well-kept hostel, and the beds and bathrooms were clean. The location is very central, in one of the nicer parts of the center, with coffee shops all around and easy access to transportation. As someone who loves hostels, I thought it was really good value for the price.

It’s a different experience for everyone at L'Auberge L'Apéro, and I’ve heard some descriptions that sound like five-star stays, with fresh paint, fine furniture, and private rooms. Where I stayed, it was a little rundown because the paint had to be removed during COVID, though the common areas were clean. There are rooms to spend time in, kitchen facilities, a registration desk, and five bathrooms with showers. Clean towels cost a dollar, laundry service is seven dollars, and there’s friendly chit-chat if you need it. Beds are changed weekly or every two weeks, or when needed. Guests are expected to keep clean, be quiet, and be friendly roommates. There are lockers too. If you’re too cold, they’ll turn up the heat. If you stay out late and they trust you, they’ll offer you a night key.
