Auberge St. Jacques

We’re very grateful to AUBERGE ST.JACQUES for the discounts during that difficult winter stretch, when the hotel was dealing with a lack of electricity. The team did what they could to keep guests comfortable and make us feel welcome, and we noticed and appreciated their effort. Their flexibility and kindness left a very positive impression, and we’d gladly recommend the hotel. Thank you again for the support and care.

We’ve stayed here twice, and the rooms have been clean and comfortable, with bright, colorful decor. The temperature control works well, though it can be a little loud. The subway is about a 15-20 minute walk away, making it easy to get around the city. I also heard today that the chonky cat who was here last time has passed away. He was a good boy, and we’ll miss him. I’d recommend the location.

I walked into reception smiling and left miserable. The woman at the desk had a terrible attitude from the start. My partner was lost and on the phone with me, though I wasn’t talking to him at that moment. She told me to put the phone down so I could listen, which I did. When she heard him say something, she rolled her eyes, got flustered, and accused me of not listening. There was no language barrier. She understood both English and French and spoke with us clearly, but rudely and directly. I took the key and went to the room. It was freezing, the bed was almost on the floor, and the pillows had no fluff. The thermostat was off and the bathroom one showed 16. We spent over 10 minutes trying to get the heat on because I didn’t want to deal with her again. I only went into the bathroom for a few seconds because I understood that walking into a room at night could feel unsettling, and because she was rude as soon as she entered. When I called for help, she let out a very disturbed sigh before saying she’d come up soon. I asked my partner to speak with her since she clearly didn’t like me, and stayed in the bathroom. We figured out the heating about 20 seconds before she knocked. He tried to tell her, but she cut him off and said not to talk to her. He tried again, respectfully, saying we’d figured it out, and she interrupted him again. I came out to see what was happening. She raised her voice, got even angrier when he asked her not to shout, threw the wall-unit control onto the bed, and slammed the door on her way out. After such a good night with my family, this ruined my mood. We didn’t even stay. We left, and I took a video of the room because I worried she might damage something and make us pay for it. That’s how bad the experience was. There was no customer service at all. Never again. One of the worst experiences I’ve had. Update: I can’t respond to your reply. Yes, I arrived at reception at 1 a.m., but that doesn’t excuse the immediate lack of professionalism when I came to get my key. Nothing was going on, there was no one coming or going, and I didn’t see anyone else. She was just sitting behind the window.

The room was clean, comfortable, and nice, and the receptionist was really helpful. I was only there for one night. It was a letdown that there weren’t many places to eat within walking distance, and the thin walls meant we could hear doors slamming and people walking around at night. Still, it was a nice stay.
