The breakfast was fantastic and the customer service was excellent. My friends and I enjoyed our stay in this charming place with its well-preserved historic feel, though it could use some renovation. I would have given it five stars, but the manager said the city isn’t making it easy to move ahead with updates. Maybe we should petition the city to help make the renovations possible.

The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions for things to do nearby. The location and price were fine, but we won’t stay again. The Omni, Hilton and Marriott suit our needs better. We had to drive to restaurants near the museum since there were more places to eat and socialize there. Parking was a frustrating part of the stay. The website doesn’t mention the $40-a-day parking charge, and there’s no free hotel parking. You can park on the hotel side of the street until 9am, or across the street until 3pm-5pm. We parked across the street and got a $102 ticket. After that, we should have paid $80 for two days of parking. Guests shouldn’t have to worry about their car being towed or ticketed. The hotel could include parking in the nightly rate instead. The rooms are small, though that wasn’t a big deal. The beds felt small to me at 6’1 and my husband at 6’7. We also had flies in our room. On both mornings we ate breakfast at the hotel, flies were around the food and trays, landing on covered food. There’s no elevator, fridge or microwave in the rooms. The hotel is fine for its price and location, but those issues put us off. 6/10 rating.

The staff were incredibly rude and got defensive instead of listening to our concerns, blaming me for everything. Within five minutes of my boyfriend and me getting to the room, we saw a large black bug running across the bed. I went downstairs to say we didn’t feel comfortable and wanted a refund, but the woman said there was nothing she could do. After about five minutes of going back and forth, she showed us another room, which smelled awful. The walls were paper thin. We stayed two nights, and on the first morning I woke at 6:30am to a woman and her husband yelling, “No one took her pills.” Somehow my $120 dolce and Gabbana went missing from the room. I’m extremely unhappy. This place honestly should be shut down.

Check-in was smooth, and the hotel kept our bags before we could check in. The breakfast was decent but nothing special, with boiled eggs, bread and bagels, fruit, cereal and yogurt. There were no hot trays to keep food at a good temperature or cover it, so summer bugs were drawn to items left at room temperature. It didn’t seem very sanitary. Our room was dated and only a 4/10 for cleanliness. A large centipede crawled on the ceiling, there were houseflies and moths, and we saw a mouse scurry across the floor. The bathroom was tiny and uncomfortable. The air conditioner was taped to the window, was a cheap model without temperature control, and didn’t cool the room properly. Hot water seemed to have little temperature control and was too hot for me. The hotel isn’t accessibility friendly, so expect to carry luggage up flights of stairs. On our last day there was no one at the front desk. Everyone checking out had to leave a room number and reusable room key on a blank piece of paper, which left us questioning how safe that was. Save yourself the headache and book a trusted hotel or Airbnb in a similar price range.

We loved our two nights here, just me and my 10 yr old daughter. It’s an old, well-preserved and clean house with a romantic French feel mixed with modern France/Paris style, just what we wanted in Montreal. The location is amazing, near lots of restaurants, shops and the subway, right among all the good places to visit. The free breakfast and breakfast area were awesome, better than at most places. Every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back to Montreal and staying here again. 100% recommended! Thank you Hotel de Paris!!
