Hotel Nelligan

We were a group of 10 visiting Nelligan over the holidays and had a lovely stay. The rooms could use a little updating, but the bathrooms were great, and we kept gathering by the fire. The staff were all amazing. The food, drinks, and service at Mama C’s were great, the breakfast wait staff were wonderful, and Jonathan in concierge was so helpful. Masta K.? at valet was incredibly gracious with all our bags, with so many people and presents. We’re excited to visit again.

We checked out after two nights. The location in the heart of Old Montreal is excellent, with restaurants, shops, and main attractions close by, but there’s a lot of noise. The first night, we saw a street fight from our window, and the next morning trucks unloading nearby woke us early. The staff were polite, though not especially engaging. Often we had to greet them first to get a response. For more than $300 a night, we expected a warmer atmosphere and a bit more comfort. The location is hard to beat, but the stay didn’t quite live up to expectations.

After our wedding last year, we stayed here and were startled awake each morning around 6:30 a.m. by very loud noises from staff or contractors dropping heavy items. We spoke with hotel staff and the manager. They offered a small discount for the disruption and kindly gave us a card, saying they’d make it up to us with a complimentary upgraded room on our anniversary. When the anniversary came, I called three times and left messages for the manager, but no one called back. We ended up staying at another boutique hotel in Old Montreal. It was very disappointing to see such poor follow-through and so little care for guests’ comfort or loyalty. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for that reason alone.

The only thing I liked was the restaurant’s design. For the price, this hotel isn’t worth it, and there are much better places for less. It felt poorly managed, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. At check-in, nobody told us anything about the hotel or offered to help with our bags, either then or at checkout. The room was dated and dusty, smelled of old carpet, and had a broken shower head, weak AC, and a sinking mattress. Our keys stopped working several times. Breakfast at Mama C was chaotic, with rude staff and extremely slow service. Reception gave us the wrong information about the hours, and the reception manager was unhelpful and did nothing to improve our stay.
