Spark By Hilton Montreal Midtown

We were happy with our long weekend stay in November. The friendly staff let us leave our bags at the hotel after checkout so we could pick them up before our flight. Breakfast was adequate, with bagels, cereal, bacon, juice, and coffee. The room was clean and ready when we arrived, and check-in was easy. It’s an unusual building because it used to be a corporate office. Some rooms look out at the neighborhood, while others only have windows onto the hallway, which has a glass exterior. The hallway is very long and most rooms are on the second floor. It was easy to get around, and everything is wheelchair accessible. The room had what we needed, though the minimal furniture and lack of carpet made it feel a little bare. The bed was comfortable but firm. The bathroom was modern, but the towels smelled a bit too strongly of bleach. The bedroom walls are thin, although our neighbors weren’t noisy. I think it was worth the price, especially since I had a Spark brand deal on my credit card.

The location was fantastic, right on Decarie, and felt very safe. The staff were responsive, friendly, and terrific. Special credit to the breakfast lady, who was a sweetheart and worked so hard. The room itself was clean and spacious, though I’m not sure this would be our first choice next time. It could work as a backup. We stayed four days over the holidays, and the hotel felt very basic. I was surprised it was even under the Hilton umbrella. There was an awful fried-like smell from the entrance through the hallways. Our mobility accessible room wasn’t fully accessible: the entrance had an automatic door, but the bathroom didn’t, and opening and closing it with a walker was difficult. The shampoo, conditioner, and toilet paper were empty when we arrived, and the fridge wasn’t working. The walls were paper thin, so we could hear everything. There were no views either. The windows faced an indoor hallway, whose windows then looked outside.

The staff were so kind and gracious, and the place felt comfortable from the start. Alesia made check-in easy, and a special thanks to Kabir for going above and beyond during our stay. Everyone was caring and constantly busy, moving between rooms or gathering things for guests. Our room was very clean, quiet, and had a great layout. I loved the spacious bathroom and marble, and the non-toxic wash products were a nice touch. I slept really well and can’t fault the place. The gym was great, and we made good use of the water fountain. Free parking and breakfast were included too. We’ll definitely be back, and I can’t recommend it enough.

The gym was decent, and the receptionist was really helpful when I had an issue, even moving me to another room. But the place feels like a budget hotel with a dorm vibe. The rooms were clean but poorly laid out, and some furniture was missing. There was no kettle or coffee maker, and no pool. The toilet kept clogging, and an employee told me to put the toilet paper in the bin. Disappointing. Hilton can do better.
