Delta Hotels by Marriott Ottawa City Centre

The pool was really nice, big, heated, and with a deeper end. There are several elevators, so I never had to wait long. The restaurant was good and the service excellent, though the breakfast buffet was cold and expensive. Ordering from the menu is a better choice. The front desk, concierge, and housekeeping staff were friendly. Rooms are on the smaller side and could use some paint. The mini fridge sitting on the floor is odd, and the sauna could use some work.

I’m a Marriott member, and this was a pretty awful stay. I’d booked six weeks ahead and asked for one thing, a quiet room. At 3 pm, check-in time, my room still wasn’t ready. An hour later it still wasn’t available, so they put me in another room with a shitty bathroom. Despicable.

The room was spacious, had a great view, and came with amenities I really liked. From check-in onward, everyone was welcoming, kind, and helpful. Ms Grosjean and Bonvoy Marriott made a point of showing appreciation, which stood out to me. I travel around the world and stay with different hotel brands, and I was impressed by the professional service and generous hospitality. I’d definitely recommend them to friends, family, and colleagues, and I’m looking forward to staying again.

The location is decent, right downtown, but the room I got felt closer to one or two star quality than the claimed four stars. I’ve stayed at the nearby Marriott before, and it was much better. This one had a stale, musty, dated feel as soon as I walked in. I’ve stayed at countless Delta Hotels on business, and this one really missed the mark. The room seemed to have been updated on the smallest possible budget, just enough to call it renovated and charge more. The wallpaper was stained and peeling in several places. The toilet ran loudly without stopping, and when I opened it, the old, crusty hardware clearly needed adjusting. The bathroom was the worst I’ve seen in a while. The shower was dated and dirty, with paint peeling from the ceiling. The mirror was chipped at the bottom right, leaving a sharp edge and looking structurally compromised. I wouldn’t be surprised if it broke and scattered over a guest someday. The sink was installed too close to the mirror, so the faucet was off to the side. It was very short and narrow, and with the poor water pressure my hands hit the sink while water splashed across the counter. The faucet also leaked through the counter and onto the floor beneath it. That puddle sat right under the bathroom’s only electrical outlet, which made using a hair dryer feel a little unsafe. There was no secure safe in the room. The fridge and other surfaces were dusty and dirty, the baseboards were covered in scuffs, and the old yellow power sockets were stained and missing screws. Save your money and don’t book at the Delta.
