Sheraton Ottawa Hotel

Mary-Line was the best part of our stay. I mentioned our concerns the next morning, and she listened, explained things, and cared enough to make the situation better. She was kind, informative, and went above and beyond. We stay here fairly often, but check-in this time wasn’t great. The woman working at night seemed to have an attitude and was rude to my coworker, who was just asking about a known issue. The hotel itself could use major updates, especially the rooms, which feel dark and old. Still, I like that it’s right in the heart of the city, close to everything. The shuttle drivers are prompt and friendly. It was a decent stay overall.

The club lounge was the main letdown. We arrived at 20:00 and it was supposed to be open until 22:00, according to reception, but there was no food, alcohol, or staff in the Club penthouse lounge. I can’t see why it cost an extra $100. In other Club, Gold, or Elite lounges we’ve used, there’s been alcohol and snacks during the hours they’re open. Very disappointing. Skip it and save your money. We were put on the club floor, level 14, but our room wasn’t an upgrade despite our Gold Elite status. It had a musty, old attic smell that left my wife stuffed up all night. She couldn’t sleep, so neither could I. The downtown location is good, and the underground parking was heated, so the car was clear of ice and snow after a winter storm. Staff were welcoming, and Ian from the lobby bar was fantastic. Get one of his Old Fashioneds, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks, Ian!

There’s food and drinks at the hotel if you’d rather stay in, and plenty of space for a group to sit together. The rooms are clean, a good size, and well equipped, and the staff are friendly. It’s handy for a conference or a little Ottawa getaway, close to things you’ll want to see. You can walk to Parliament, the mall, and other sights if the weather’s good, or take an Uber. I’d stay here again.

The rooms are a bit noisy, you can hear the buses and things. Still, it was definitely better than the other 3-star hotels we’d stayed at before. Great location and really nice, helpful service.
