Grand Park Hotel Vancouver Airport, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The location is great, and the airport shuttle was really convenient. But there were cleanliness problems in the rooms, especially with the towels, and one room had no toilet paper. All our keys stopped working after one night even though we had paid for two. The person who checked us in also enrolled me in two memberships without my consent. I had declined on the tablet. He asked for my email and phone number without clearly explaining why, and after I showed him my accounts and said to use the first one, he took another email from the list. That address was connected to my work, which was inappropriate to use for this. The other check-in staff may well be professional, but this employee’s fraudulent behavior is very concerning. Be aware of this kind of thing when checking in.

The airport shuttle was on time, and the driver was courteous. The location is excellent too, so it works fine for a short overnight stay. I’d driven past many times and always thought the grand exterior and lobby looked appealing, but the room needs work. There were food stains on the curtains, the phone to the front desk didn’t work, and water pressure was low in both the sink and shower.

The front desk staff were polite and helpful with storing my bags, and thankfully they let me check in early since 4pm feels quite late. There are plenty of places within walking distance, including Walmart, Marshalls, Winners, and Lansdowne Centre. They also sell a decent range of snacks near the desk. The room itself was clean and comfortable, but it was very hot and stuffy at first with the AC off. It cooled down quickly once switched on, though the unit clicked loudly each time it came on during the night, so I didn’t sleep well. Breakfast was a letdown. It was basic, with eggs, bacon, pancakes and cereal, while the muffins and pastries looked stale, the yogurt was expired, and the fruit was bruised. I’m pretty sure yogurt that expired exactly one month ago shouldn’t be served. It wasn’t worth $20 per person. Aside from that, my stay was fine.

We were only there for one night and planned to leave our car while flying out, but the room was freezing. My mum had to keep her coat on for most of the night, and opening the curtains for some light revealed single-pane windows that made it colder. The wake-up call never came. When I asked at the desk, I was told, "well, I sent it, I guess it didn't work". The beds were comfortable enough, but I wouldn’t shower in that bathroom. This booking was a huge disappointment. There are lots of Richmond hotels offering park and fly, so I’d look for another one.
