The spa was a real bright spot, and we really enjoyed our massages. Our room was clean and had some updated features, though the furniture was worn and chipped. The pool area was nice and a big part of why we booked, but only one outdoor hot tub worked, and the ice buildup made it feel unsafe. We were disappointed to learn the advertised gym was in the basement and currently out of service. It was an okay stay, but the hotel needs updating and better upkeep.

We first stayed here a few months ago because medical appointments brought us to the area. It was good enough for a quick night, and we’ve now stayed four times, spending over $1,000 including meals at the restaurant. The food was okay on the first few visits, but our latest stay was far from acceptable. The room we checked into yesterday was one of the worst. The chair looked as though someone had needed to go and not made it to the bathroom, and there was a huge carpet stain right where your feet land getting out of bed. I work in the industry and know a room should be impeccably clean. I went to the front desk and raised the issues with the silver-haired, authoritarian person in charge. I was told we had booked a budget room. We had chosen a smaller room for one night, but still expected it to be clean. When I asked whether budget rooms weren’t cleaned, she said she only worked at the front desk and told me to talk to housekeeping, as if that were my job. After all that poor service, she did eventually find us something more acceptable. What I wanted to hear was simply that they were sorry and would find us another room. Instead, she made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. That’s a terrible way to lose a returning hotel and restaurant customer for good. Front desk staff are the first line of defense, and this hotel needs a cleanup both in the rooms and at reception. There are also very old TVs, cheap institutional soap dispensers with no toiletries, old and terribly thin pillows, decor that leaves a lot to be desired, and bedding that doesn’t suit a hotel charging these prices. This is a one-star white elephant pretending to be a three-star hotel. After the recent one- and two-star reviews, you’d think someone might start paying attention.

The staff were polite and did their jobs, though the service didn’t stand out. Cleanliness was about average: the room looked cleaned, but parts of the bathroom could have used more attention. The older furniture and decor could use a refresh, and the room wasn’t as fresh or cozy as I’d hoped, though it wasn’t terrible. Hotel Excelsior in Sainte-Adèle sits right on the highway, so it’s easy to reach but traffic noise can be a problem, especially if you’re sensitive to it. I recently stayed there, and it may suit someone who wants a simple place and doesn’t mind the noise or dated rooms. For a quieter stay or a more updated room, I’d look elsewhere.

I visited January 12-14, 2026, and found the site highlights very misleading. This felt like a two-star motel at best, not hotel quality. It may have been a hotel spa 24 years ago, but only a shell of that remains, with none of the pampering you’d expect from a spa. Essential complimentary items are lacking. If you’ve already booked, bring your own water bottles, flip-flops, robes, and shampoo. You won’t find the cleanliness, hot water, or luxury treatment you may be looking for. The restaurant is in the building but run by a separate business, with a selection of food and decent service.

The room was dirty, and there were dirty plates and glasses in the spa. The coffee machines and spa didn’t work, and we couldn’t use the fireplace because it only opens at certain times. The restaurant was cold and its staff made us feel unwelcome. On our way out to eat, we saw kitchen staff smoking in the kitchen. The rooms cost too much for what you get. We should have chosen a cheaper motel or a hotel with a kitchenette and spent the same on two nights, even without a fireplace that apparently isn’t available when you want it. There was also no indication when booking that spa access wasn’t allowed after 11 pm. The place feels cheap, and you definitely don’t get your money’s worth. A motel with a spa and a door straight to the room sounds like a much better option than this cold hotel. Hope you have a better stay somewhere else.
