Quirky in a way that really suited me. My clean corner room had a fireplace, a big comfy bed and a cozy spot for reading, right beside the ski storage room, with ski-in, ski-out access straight to the door. After a long day coaching, I’d only been having tea for about five minutes when the owners brought me snacks. I really appreciated that. They’re lovely, and their English isn’t great, but it doesn’t get in the way of their service. There’s a cute kitty to greet you at the door, too. It wasn’t what I expected, but I loved staying here. I like unusual places, and this one absolutely tickled my fancy.

The Japanese people running it showed truly heartfelt hospitality. Sun Peaks has four or five mountains and lots of ski runs. There’s a hospital in the village as well, so even a longer stay feels reassuring.
