Holiday Inn Express Toronto East - Scarborough by IHG

I first stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel (IHE) in the 1980's, and then again during 2020 - 2025 while living in Toronto. The renovation work has changed how parts of the hotel look compared with those earlier days. Once it’s finished, I think it will look like it did in its luxury days of the 1980's. Staff services were excellent, from laundry and room cleaning to food service. The front desk team were friendly and knew both Toronto and their duties well. My room was cleaned and supplied with fresh towels and toilet paper each day. Heating and air conditioning (H & AC) worked well at first, then became fair when the system needed repair. Overall, I consider the Holiday Inn Express Chain of hotels high quality family hotels and can recommend them anywhere in the world. Yours Truly, Michael Clayton

The breakfast bar had a good range each morning, though you needed to get up early for the best pick and it closes at a set time. I was looking forward to the pancake machine, but it was pretty basic, and I only used it once or twice. There were other nice options. The Keg was literally next door, and there were other food places nearby too, so you don’t have to go downtown just to get McDonald's or something. If you need a taxi, reception gets one sorted quickly. Everyone, from reception to the cleaning staff, was friendly and always smiling. My room was very spacious, with a great-sized bed. It was easy to call the front desk for help, and they fixed any problems quickly. Would go back! :)

Inside, the hotel has a cozy, almost cabin-like feel, with seating, lights, and high ceilings. Our family of four had plenty of space in the well-kept room and bathroom. The only things that would have made the stay better were a mini fridge and microwave. We booked at the last minute, and the staff accommodated us really well. Everyone was friendly and attentive to our needs and requests. No complaints, and I’d definitely recommend it!

We drove for 6 hours and arrived at 10:00 PM, so after changing rooms once, we didn’t want to go elsewhere. The first room smelled bad, and the replacement wasn’t any better. The place was quite dirty, despite how good the online pictures look. Rooms smell, and the showers are old and dirty. Breakfast was just bad, though the coffee was good. I have pictures to back up this review and can send them to anyone interested. I wouldn’t stay here again.
