Barclay Hotel

I booked a queen bed but was given a room with two single beds, and it smelled strongly of smoke, even though I believe all the rooms are supposed to be non-smoking. I raised both problems with the front desk. They said the hotel was fully booked and couldn’t honour my original booking. The person at the desk gave me $20 as compensation.

The building’s old, but the rooms were very clean. Great location, excellent service from the staff, and very good value. I’ll come back :)

I was happy with my stay. The front desk staff were very kind, and they let me leave my luggage before check-in. I was travelling alone, but they gave me a three-room, two-bedroom unit. It was almost too spacious, but I was satisfied.

The price was good, the location convenient, and the staff friendly. The room was fairly clean, with fresh bed linens, and thankfully no bed bugs. Still, I was disappointed and think it barely deserves 3 stars. I almost gave it 2, but I’ve stayed in worse places. There was a strong, unpleasant old smell in the room, and the noise was terrible. We could hear everything outside and from other rooms, as if there were no proper walls or windows. Renovations were underway, but nobody mentioned that before booking, which was frustrating. The Wi-Fi was almost unusable. The place badly needs renovation. Maybe it’ll improve later, but I wouldn’t stay again right now.
